| GARLIC BULBS Garlic maybe planted in early spring or early fall. To grow nice sized garlic bulbs, it needs lots of organic matter, like compost or well aged horse manure worked into the soil. Bradfield organic fertilizer would also work, it has a lot of organic matter. Break garlic bulb apart and plant cloves 2" deep, 4" apart. Keep weed free. Harvest midsummer. Use fresh or store in a cool dry place for later use. Each bulb yields about 10 cloves. |
| OSAGE GARLIC Stiffneck variety. Vigorous, prolific and highly resistant, the plants are, tender, mild and succulent from mid March through late June and can be enjoyed fresh or cooked like green onions. Left untended, the mature plants will, by late July have produced a top filled with seeds as well as a bulb containing several cloves. Both the seed head and the bulb will produce ( typically ) about sixty offspring. If big bulbs are desired, simply cut the coiled scapes off as they appear, then in mid to late summer as the leaves have yellowed at least half way, lift plants and dry in a shady location. A redomesticated variety from a remnant colony at one of the principal town sites of the Osage Indians in mid Missouri. 75- 100 plants per bunch. Will be shipped directly from grower here in Missouri. Plants will be shipped from March 13 through April 21 in the spring and From September 23 to October 18 in the fall only. |
