PEAS, SOUTHERN OR COWPEAS Approximately 1,500 seeds per pound.
PLANTING: In late spring, till soil. Place seeds 1" deep, 3-5" apart in a row spacing of 30-36".
HARVEST; Peas can be picked when still green and soft, chewable and sweet. Or you can let them dry on the plant for dried peas.
To pick dried peas, wait until pod is discolored, shriveled and pea is hard to dent with thumb nail. Check on them daily or the wind
will thrash them for you. Pods are ready to pick when they are matured and dried down for shelling to a brown color. In damp
weather, pick pods and finish drying in a dry location indoors. Pods can be either be shelled by hand or you can put them into a old
pillow case. Tie end of pillow case. Through into a drier. Turn control to fluff and start drier for 15 minutes. Remove pillow case and
take outdoors on a windy day. Hold pillow case about 2-3' above a bucket and pour out the contents slowly. The wind will separate
the beans from the rest. After peas are shelled, use or store in a cool dry place for later use. You will need 2 lbs seeds per 100' of row
or 120 pounds per acre.
